In 2015, the Georgia General Assembly voted on numerous iterations of a transportation funding bill that was eventually signed by Governor Deal. That bill raised taxes by $1 billion according to the AJC, and was roundly criticized by conservatives for increasing taxes at a time when the budget could be properly refocused on funding transportation infrastructure without raising taxes.
Paulette Rakestraw voted for this bill TWICE! The first vote took place on March 5, 2015 and passed 123-46. The 46 no votes were almost entirely fiscal conservatives in the House who opposed raising taxes on Georgians. The second vote was on the Conference Committee report and that took place on March 31, 2015. That also passed 129-41 and included the increased Hotel/Motel Tax. Rakestraw also voted yes.
THE WHOLE TRUTH IS Paulette Rakestraw voted to raised your taxes by nearly $1 billion in 2015, and the record clearly shows she cast not one – but TWO – votes to do so.
